This insider’s guide to sync will equip you with the tools and knowledge you need to get your music heard by key stakeholders and to get licensed.
We’ll look at how sync deals work, licensing terms and deal structures as well as best practices for pitching music to sync clients and music superpervisors.

Music Publishing in the 21st Century and Career Building in Music Publishing. In this session we will look at modern music publishing administration, including the technology that is helping songwriters and rights holders earn more from their music.
We’ll also explore self-publishing options for those looking to start up on their own and how to build a career in this exciting sector of the music industry.

One-To-One Session. In week 5 you’ll receive a 1 hour online one-to-one session with course tutor James Cooper, who will help advise you on your journey in music publishing and sync.
This is your opportunity to ask any further questions and to receive expert guidance and mentorship from a working music supervisor and publishing expert.

With over twenty years working at the forefront of music publishing and sync, James has helped numerous independent artists, composers, songwriters and rightsholders navigate the music industry.
We will explore creative strategies to monitise your work, the right way to get accross sync opportunities or how to break into the industry.

James Cooper
Hi, I’m James - Founder of Rocket Science Music and former Head of Sync at Sony Music Publishing.
I’ve worked on numerous sync deals for brands including Pepsi, Audi, John Lewis, Jaguar, Nike and Adidas to name a few. I’ve also had the privilege of working with some of the most iconic artists, songwriters and catalogues including The Beatles, David Bowie, Motown, Oasis, Blur Queen, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, Arctic Monkeys and many more.
Alongside roles at both major and independent music companies, I’ve spent years teaching music industry courses, speaking on panels, and consulting with startups, artists, songwriters, and those looking to break into the business.
With over 20 years’ experience in music publishing, sync, and supervision, I look forward to sharing my passion for this dynamic part of the industry with you throughout the course or on a one-to-one consultancy session.
